Thoughts about green words and window film….

Green. Sustainable. Energy Efficient.  These are words that you hear more and more every day.  But what do they really mean to you as a homeowner or proprietor?  Further…what does that have to do with window film?

When we think about green building here in the Clear View office, it’s much less complicated than you might think. We believe a green building (whether it’s a home or an office building) is one that is well built,  built RIGHT .  Its overall cost of operation is lower than its neighbors, its design thoughtfully takes into account its use and its impact on the community surrounding it, and it is MADE TO LAST.  It is a healthy place to live or work. It runs with as little expense as possible for its size and it isn’t a burden on the community’s natural resources or environment, and it requires little maintenance.

Well, if you’re like most of us out there, you probably don’t live or work in a building that your community would consider ‘green’. What can you do about it and why would you do anything anyways?

Everyone can think of ways to make their buildings more efficient, more comfortable, and less costly to operate.  Usually those ideas are ultra-expensive and complicated. Well, why not look at the low hanging fruit first?!  Your windows were put in your building for a reason…not only do they provide light, views, and a connection to the outdoors—they also allow for fresh air. Fresh cool air in the seasons where that’s appropriate helps you reduce cooling system use, and thus, expense.  But what to do about the rest of the year? All of that heat being rejected by your roof and your walls is STILL beaming in through your windows!  Most of us don’t have windows that were designed for our specific climate! Your AC can be running all day—in commercial buildings it can run year-round! Certainly, that’s not GREEN or ENERGY EFFICIENT.

3M Window Film, from Clear View Window Tinting can help you with that. Rather than covering your windows with expensive window treatments to attempt to keep that heat out ( and  LIGHT too! Why not just permanently brick ‘em in ?!), or spending a fortune on replacement windows that might not be truly designed with YOUR building’s location and orientation in mind, why not have a relatively low-cost product manufactured by a name you trust installed that can out-perform those treatments and still allow you to enjoy those other benefits —the reasons you have those windows to begin with—natural light and that connection to the outdoors?

Our products are not what you might think. The early years of the window film industry may have cast a not so attractive light (pun totally intended) on the products that we sell. We encourage you to check out our gallery at www.clearviewtint.com  to see for yourself.  This isn’t purple, bubbly, and cracked.   This is an attractive, VERY durable, high-performance product that can make your home or office more comfortable and cooler too!

You don’t have to take our word for it though.  Google us(http://bit.ly/tEIc1S) and read some reviews. Google 3M Window film.

Visit some of our commercial clients ( http://www.clearviewtint.com/portfolio.php)  and see for yourself.  Some recent projects of ours would make for a great outing this weekend. Try Sticks Kebob Shop on Preston Ave. (http://www.stickskebobshop.com/)    for lunch and then head down to Pippin Hill Farm and Vineyards (http://www.pippinhillfarm.com) to enjoy some great vino and views of the fall foliage. Ask ‘em how they like their new window film.  Then call us. We’ll come out for free and share with you the attractive benefits of 3M Window Film.  Maybe it’ll be your first step towards GREENING your home or office.

See you soon!

How do you clean window tinting?

Care Instructions for your window film

1.      Do not clean the inside of your windows where film was applied for one month.

2.      When cleaning you may use any type of window cleaner you choose (this DOES NOT include all purpose cleaners that claim they can be used for glass – these may damage your film)

3.      When wiping off this cleaner you may use paper towels, squeegees, or micro-fiber cloth.

4.      Do not use anything abrasive on your film (such as razor blades, scouring pads, or steel wool).

5.      If you see any moisture in between the film and the glass, do not worry this is normal. The moisture will evaporate and go away in no longer than a few weeks.

6.      If you decide to hire professional window cleaners to clean the inside of the windows, please make them aware of the windows that you had film applied to, and have them read these care instructions.

7.      Your warranty will be mailed to your home or business from 3M in four to six weeks.

8.      Do not apply any tape or adhesives to windows that have film (you may use suction cups after the first month).

Thank you for allowing Clear View in your home or business. We sincerely appreciate your business. We know it is not our right to work for you, but a privilege. For this we are grateful. Once again THANK YOU!

The truth about how floors, furniture, & artwork fade

I never really thought there were lies being told about how or why things fade, just misconceptions or a lack of knowledge.

The biggest misconception is that the elimination of UV rays will stop fading. Not only is that inaccruate but UV rays are responsible for 40% of what is in sunlight that causes fading. Please see the chart below to see what are the other 60% of factors in sunlight that cause fading.

As you can see visible light and solar heat contribute 50% and misc. 10%.

Visible light is literally the light that comes through your windows, and solar heat is the heat that you feel coming through. Miscellaneous is assorted variables such as orientation (N – S – E – W), type of materials in your home (wood – leather – textile), colors, and natural wear and tear.

Very few residential windows filter enough, if any of these factors to really make an impact. This includes most Low E windows. Low E stands for low emissitivity and is a great insulator, but if these window do not also have heat and light reducing qualities included they won’t be very helpful against fading.

When considering options to prevent fading please consider 3M Window Film. For more information on our products please visit our website, and if you have any questions feel free to email or call.
